AZ Sint-Jan in Oostende, the former H. Serruys hospital, is not an unknown area for ATS Group to work in. ATS Group has realised several projects there since the late 1980s. In 2016, the tender was announced for the emergency power and medium voltage project.

The impetus for this investment came mainly from the instability of the emergency power plant at the time, the outdated low-voltage installation and also the uncertainty about the supply of electricity. A long run-up to the project and good preparation were necessary for a successful conversion.
The project
The original situation consisted of 2 main transformers supplying the hospital and 2 general diesel groups of 250 kVA. In the event of a power cut, only the operating theatres were supplied by the diesel groups. The entire hospital was not taken over, which was a requirement for the new emergency power project. ATS was ultimately responsible for replacing the medium voltage, the current emergency power groups and the general low-voltage boards.
