The project took shape when Bart Bruggeman, technical director at the Scheppers Institute in Wetteren, contacted ATS for technical support. The project, which turned out to be technically challenging as well as educationally and socially relevant, immediately appealed to the Power Quality business unit.
Burundi is an extremely suitable location for a battery-powered solar installation. The 16kWp PV installation, along with a 15kVa/28kWh battery, will be able to provide the school with electricity virtually all year round.

Schepper Institute students set up a shipping container as a technical room and installed inverters and batteries. During the preparation, ATS provided the necessary technical support. The shipping container was shipped to Burundi as early as the beginning of March. At the beginning of August, a group of students, teachers, management of the Scheppers Institute traveled. They were there for ordinary technical installations in the school, such as installing sockets and lamps. The last week 2 colleagues of ATS were also in Burundi to place the solar panels together on the spot and to store them in batteries. And the results are impressive! The installation is running an average output of 65kWh per day. And that is more than enough to provide the entire school with electricity.
In the school, 2 PC classrooms were also furnished with materials donated by ATS.

A realization we can be proud of!
