IT Engineer – Cybersecurity

Data Manager ATS Group

Merelbeke

At ATS, a multi-technology group headquartered in Merelbeke, we are looking for an IT Engineer specializing in cybersecurity to further develop and strengthen our digital security.

Our IT department consists of 18 motivated employees working in the IT domains of software development, ERP, network management, helpdesk, and cybersecurity. For this vacancy, we are looking for someone who understands the practical side of IT services and, by extension, cybersecurity, and who takes a hands-on approach.

Function

You combine hands-on experience in IT support and/or system administration with broad knowledge of cybersecurity. You understand how network-connected devices, applications, identities, endpoints, and cloud environments function and translate that into effective security measures. You work closely with the CISO and system administrators to align security and operations technically and organizationally.

Because cybersecurity is highly dependent on direct interaction with our infrastructure, systems, and colleague teams, this position is based at our office in Merelbeke. Being on site ensures better collaboration with IT support, system administrators, and the CISO, and makes it possible to respond more quickly to threats, perform tests, and assess risks accurately.

Function

You will help shape and implement NIS2 requirements and, together with the CISO and system administrators, ensure that security is structurally embedded throughout the entire IT environment. You will do this by:

  • Security measures help improve and keep up to date by actively monitoring new security threats and relevant security technologies.
  • Ensure that security guidelines and policies within the organization are correctly applied and complied with.
  • Supporting daily IT operations and contributing to secure configurations.
  • Investigating, following up on, and correctly handling security incidents.
  • Performing security assessments on new hardware and software implementations: analyzing risks and advising on how these can be safely integrated into the infrastructure.
  • Participate in security awareness initiatives and increase cyber awareness within the organization.

Route

You will start in our IT support department. Not as a temporary stepping stone, but as a deliberate first phase: this will allow you to get to know our organization, employees, IT infrastructure, and IT processes thoroughly. Gradually, the balance will shift more and more toward your specific cybersecurity tasks.

Profile

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or equivalent through experience
  • You are passionate about everything related to IT and cybersecurity.
  • Relevant experience in information security is a definite plus
  • You have strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • You are an effective communicator, both verbally and in writing. You are also passionate about clearly explaining cybersecurity topics to end users within our organization.
  • You can work independently, but above all, you’re a team player who believes in collaboration and shared success. You’re committed to helping promote cybersecurity awareness within our corporate group.
  • Language knowledge: Dutch and English
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or SSCP are a plus
  • Knowledge of networks and systems, e.g. Microsoft 365 or Entra ID

Technical basis:

  • Experience with IT support, system administration, or infrastructure management.
  • Knowledge of network architecture: firewalls, subnetting, routing, VLANs, segmentation.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management and cloud-based IT environments.

Cybersecurity knowledge:

  • Knowledge of modern security architectures: zero trust, least privilege, identity-first security.
  • Experience with endpoint, email, and cloud security.
  • Experience with EDR/XDR platforms.
  • Log analysis, incident investigation, and correct triage.
  • Basic principles of incident response.

Plus points:

  • Understanding security and compliance frameworks such as NIS2, ISO standards, and CIS controls.
  • SOC processes or threat hunting.
  • Relevant security certifications, training, or experience.

Offer

  • Family work atmosphere with the strength and stability of a large multi-technology group.
  • An environment where your expertise and ideas are valued.
  • Various training opportunities internally (ATS Academy) and externally.
  • Strong advancement opportunities and support for your personal development.
  • Sports activities you can participate in (your own ATS Run, squash, rowing, etc.), running or walking about noon, etc.).
