iC7 Automation

The iC7-Automation drive: the brain of your machine

In a world where downtime costs money and flexibility is a must, machine builders, installers, and end users are constantly searching for smarter solutions. A frequency converter that simply controls a motor is no longer enough. The updated Danfoss iC7-Automation evolves to become the heart of your application and solves practical problems before they arise.

From reactive to proactive: less downtime, more production

Imagine a critical conveyor belt in a food processing plant. A drive failure could shut down an entire production line, resulting in spoiled goods. Whereas in the past, hours were lost reprogramming a replacement unit, the iC7-Automation now offers a solution that takes just minutes. Thanks to the microSD card, the settings and parameters of a speed controller can be easily copied. In the event of a malfunction, simply insert the card into a new controller, and production resumes almost immediately. This minimal loss of time prevents major consequential damage.

One solution for multiple systems

Companies often have their own preferences for network protocols such as PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, or Modbus TCP. The iC7-Automation eliminates this problem. The most common fieldbus licenses are already included in the software and can be easily activated by ATS when needed. The result? You only need one type of speed controller for a wide range of projects, which leads to less complexity and faster commissioning.

Built-in intelligence saves costs and space

Not every application requires an expensive, external PLC for simple logic tasks. Consider, for example, a pump system in a water treatment plant that must follow a specific start-up and shutdown sequence. With theMyDrive® Insight software, this logic can be programmed directly into the iC7-Automation. This not only saves the cost of a PLC, but also valuable space in the control cabinet and engineering time. As a result, ATS can offer you a more compact and cost-effective total solution.

Safety as standard, not as an option

Machine safety is crucial. An emergency stop must be reliable and quickly bring the machine to a safe state. The iC7-Automation now integrates standard safety functions such as Safe Stop 1 (SS1-t) across the entire power range. This ensures a controlled stop of the motor without completely interrupting the power supply, allowing the machine to restart more quickly after an intervention. For applications requiring a readily accessible emergency stop, such as on a packaging machine, the controller can now be supplied in an enclosure with an integrated emergency stop button.

Ready for the digital future

In an increasingly connected world, cybersecurity is not a luxury but a necessity for protecting your processes. An integrated cryptochip secures the iC7-Automation at the hardware level and protects against unauthorized access and tampering.

The Danfoss iC7-Automation is more than just a component; it’s a building block for more reliable, flexible, and efficient machines. As your partner, ATS is happy to work with you to determine how this technology can be used to solve your specific challenges.

Application story at MCAM

From its facility in Tielt, Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials produces high-performance engineering plastics using extrusion. However, extrusion is a highly specialized process that must run continuously. Downtime is therefore out of the question.

ATS assisted MCAM in developing a new electrical standard for retrofits, demonstrated its capabilities by converting multiple extrusion lines, and also resolved a drive issue in record time with the introduction of the Danfoss IC7.
